What more would one want for this new year from Radha Govind Geet!
JKYog and its extended family of volunteers would like to wish everyone the best for the future and another year filled with devotion, compassion and service to Lord and Guru.
We continue to relish the sweetness of the dohas this new year, which Shri Maharajji has so abundantly filled into them. Shri Maharajji finds innumerable ways for the devotee to constantly remember Shri Radha Krishna and increase the longing for their divine grace.
In couplet 19, Shri Maharajji (portraying the ardent wish of a devotee) says, “Wave your magic wand such that everywhere i look, all that my eyes may behold is the divine couple Shri Radha Krishna.”
An aspirant’s mind and its thoughts need to be steady and focused in order to attract the grace of Shri Radha Krishna. Even in the advanced stages of sadhana (that includes Roopdhyan meditation), the mind can wander into the vast maze of this material world. The best and the only way to keep it focused continuously is to repeatedly contemplate on the forms, virtues, saints and abodes of our soul beloved Shri Krishna while chanting his innumerable glories and names.
When all that a devotee sees in front of him is the divine couple, there is nothing else the mind can think of but them. This automatically ensures that the mind is completely absorbed in God.
The end of couplet 19 flows beautifully into the arms of the next, where Shri Maharajji emphasizes the same point with a small difference. He says, “I pray to you so that i have your divine vision again and again. Bless me such that i continue to increase my thirst for your divine vision forever.”
These two couplets signify the same point – that a devotee should always yearn for the divine vision of Shri Radha Krishna. Additionally, Shri Maharajji always cautions us in his lectures that the devotee must pray for their vision only for the sake of their happiness and not our personal satisfaction. As the foremost exponent of Raganuga Bhakti, Shri Maharajji teaches us “selfless devotion and service for the pleasure of Radha Krishna.”
This is a very highly advanced stage of bhakti. It is the highest ideal that Shri Maharajji sets for his disciples, as it is the zenith of divine love which is attainable by a soul. In the selfless form of bhakti (nishkam bhakti), the soul’s aim is to please Radha Krishna and every action or thought is performed for their pleasure. This highly elevated state of bhakti does not come about without effort and sacrifice. It can be attained with sustained sadhana and service only in this human form.
This is the essence of Shri Maharajji’s philosophy and the couplets direct us towards this goal by egging us to pray for their divine vision all the time.
Couplet 20 highlights the nature of divine love by singing the glory of braj ras – the nectar of divine love that flows eternally from every pore of Shri Radha Krishna’s divine form. It is so intoxicating that the rasik saints (those fortunate souls who have attained Shri Radha Krishna’s love) never cease to be satisfied with it and always want more!
The nature of divine love is such that it increases exponentially every moment. It can never stop. It is unlimited and flows eternally as grace from the lotus feet of Shri Radha Krishna. It is for us souls to realize the grace and work towards attaining it. The more we love and serve, the more they are pleased and hence, more grace (and love) we receive which pleases them even more. This is an endless cycle of divine intoxicating love!
All glories to Jagadguru Shri Kripaluji Maharaj and the grace of Shri Radha Krishna!
