We shall continue with the opening couplets from ‘Radha Govind Geet’ – ‘Dainya Madhuri’.

Couplet 15

Ek var de de Radhe Govind Radhe
Bhulehoon Bhoolon nahi tohi pal adhe

Jagadguru Shri Kripaluji Maharaj says,

“Grant me a boon Shri Radha, that even by a momentary loss of memory, i should never forget you.”

This is again a devotee’s plea to the Lord where he is fearful that even by mistake, he should not forget to remember the picture of the divine couple in his mind and heart.

Shri Maharajji’s words again have a deeper meaning, especially because he has been the foremost exponent of Raganuga bhakti and selfless service. When a devotee is learning and practicing the art of seva, the Guru teaches him to serve with love and without any expectation of fruitful returns. Serve Hari and Guru with love and do not ask anything in return.

“Serve them for the pleasure of serving them and solely for their pleasure and not yours.”

In such a situation, how can a devotee ask for a boon? A servant is not expected to ask his master for anything in return for his service.

Yet, Shri Maharajji clarifies, the devotee asks for the boon of not forgetting, so that his mind will always remain absorbed in the divine realm and with the aim of serving them. Selfish it might seem, but it has the prerequisite that service to the Lord through complete absorption of mind in his remembrance is the primary aim, and not any other type of material gain.

This boon is a countless times better than praying to God and asking him for money, success, power, etc.

In this way, Shri Maharajji devices countless methods of explaining the philosophical truths to devotees, by hiding such gems of wisdom inside simple lines of poetry.
