Swamiji illustrates the power of positive thoughts in shaping our destinies. Through a story he first highlights the importance of drawing our attention to the things for which we are grateful in life. Often the root of dissatisfaction and consequent mental problems is a lack of gratefulness for our many blessings. We are too focused on how life should be instead of being thankful for what is and using it to attract more success. Through a reinforced pattern of negative thinking, our will power to use our resources and initiative to change, takes a hit and we stop making progress. Thoughts act at a very fundamental yet subtle level to change our lives. In this way we attract circumstances according to our thoughts.
Power of Positive Thoughts – They are Things!
Einstein concluded in his theory of relativity, that matter, and energy are interchangeable.

Earth, water, fire, air, space, mind, intellect, and ego—these are eight components of my material energy.
This includes thoughts, since they are generated within the mind! Just like electromagnetic waves, thoughts are subtle entities that can take form and travel. Swami Vivekananda said:
“We are what our thoughts have made us; so, take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.”
Power of Positive Thoughts – They Affect Your Health
Negative thoughts can affect body chemistry to cause disease. When the mind generates stressful thoughts, the body responds by secreting stress hormones that increase the heart rate and blood pressure. Any threat big or small evokes the same response from the body and over time, leads to gradual damage and disease. However, the ancient Indian scriptures such as the Yog Vasishtha, have already mentioned that the root of disease is the mind. Watch the video to learn more!
Power of Positive Thoughts – They Change Your Appearance
Repeated thoughts and actions cause the facial and body muscles to respond in the same way each time the thought is generated. Over time, others can tell if we are stressed or cheerful just by looking at us. A furrowed brow, sagging face, hunched back, are signs of someone who is under a great deal of stress. On the other hand, a glowing face, an erect back, and confident gait indicate someone with a great deal of positive energy and inspiration.
